Paul Pope, the National Enquirer scion who battled his mother, Lois, in court over money for years, has optioned rights to his 2010 book “The Deeds of My Fathers” to Fox 21 Television Studios.
The book covers the Popes from grandfather Generoso Sr.’s construction firm, which supplied materials for Rockefeller Center and the Empire State Building, to the purchase by Paul’s father, Generoso Jr., of the Enquirer and his dealings with celebrities, the CIA and mobsters.
“There were nefarious characters involved with my father and grandfather, such as Albert Anastasia — he had Murder Inc. — Frank Costello, Vincent ‘Jimmy Blue Eyes’ Alo, Matty the Horse . . . They were the real deal,” he told Page Six.
Pope has called the book “’The Godfather’ meets ‘Citizen Kane.’”
Project producers include Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way and Kevin McCormick’s Langley Park Productions. The option expires in July, and Pope hopes it will become a show or a movie.
“It’s the story of a century,” he says, adding he has others lined up to do it if it doesn’t stay with Fox.
